Incorporating emotive, double edged lyricism with catchy hooks and left of centre electronic rock production, FEAR OF MARKO finds himself somewhere between typical emo popstar and boundary breaking trailblazer.

Emerging from the Manchester underground music scene FEAR OF MARKO (Marcus Connolly) first surfaced online in 2018, sharing demo’s and short films online, soon developing a small cult like following. In 2019 after being offered a distribution deal from AWAL (a division of Sony Music Entertainment), he then went on to release two mixtapes online before landing on the stage name FEAR OF MARKO in 2022.

The mixtapes; described by blogs as ‘Saccharine sweet pop with a grunge rock twist’ were a combination of self-produced demo’s and co-writes over left of centre electro-pop and rock production that MARKO had curated with online collaborators from the UK, Europe and the US. Received well by his online fanbase, garnering over 80,000 streams collectively and landing spots in several music blogs and Spotify editorial playlists.

Going on to open for the likes of Delilah Bon, Sam Akpro, TRUNC and GIRLI while releasing the single collection ‘Violent Ends’ at the end of 2022. FEAR OF MARKO has been described by Bitersweet Press as the 'typical e-boy next door’ pairing brooding lyricisms exploring self destruction and toxic relationships with frazzled alt-pop sensibilities.

Currently falling somewhere between hedonistic electro grunge rock and emo influenced pop, FEAR OF MARKO is making waves as a boundary breaking artist, as a QPOC with influences from his gritty working class background.

Having previously collaborated with ‘Big Picture Entertainments’ Matthieu Woodburn (Mattu) and now collaborating with RNCM’s Sam Cooper (SAMXEMMA, Mucky Wednesday) and Montreal (CA) based independent producer Jonathan James Butler (Jonjo Yano) the new wave of FEAR OF MARKO music is the perfect mix of his online experimental electronic roots and contemporary alternative rock.
